Alumni

QMULBC has an alumni club, Drapers Rowing Club, which is open to former students of QMUL, and both current and former staff, who row at any level. As well as presenting alumni with an opportunity to row competitively at a great price, members of Drapers also benefit from the Club’s lively social scene whilst supporting future generations of the College Boat Club.

Membership of Drapers Rowing Club provides access to all QMULBC facilities and equipment. Membership is subject to an annual subscription fee, currently set at £150 per annum (2017/18). Members must also hold associate or alumni membership of QMSU or BLSA, and of British Rowing (formerly the ARA).

Drapers RC shares a fleet with QMULBC, and alongside some joint social events, run their own separate social calendar. We hope that Drapers RC will serve as rowing club, networking organisation, social hub, and a great way to allow alumni to volunteer with the current student club.

At the end of each academic year, weather permitting, QMULBC issues an invitation to its alumnus to partake in the Drapers Challenge Cup, an annual race between QMULBC and matching Drapers invitational crews, held on the University of London boathouse in chiswick.

Queen Mary is proud to boast a number of notable past rowers, including Olympians Richard Budgett, Martin Cross (both Los Angeles 1984), and Mike Hennessy (Athens 2004), and Paralympian Martyna Snopek (Beijing 2008).

To keep up-to-date with Drapers RC news, and to receive invitations to alumni social events, please sign-up to our mailing list.

Next event – Drapers Cup Challenge 02/06/18 at UL boathouse from 12pm. The club has recently purchased a new women’s eight boat, who’s name will be revealed at the event.
